1st race of the season and first warm day of the year. High 70’s w/ shorts it felt great. hop brook dam seems to always be the first race in the root 66 series and it always seems to be muddy and this year was no exception.. I suppose that should be expected this early in the season.

12 riders showed up to race in the semi- pro/ pro category. Andrew frye and I represented bikeman for this category. We both had lousy starts and were almost last heading into the single track. Andrew and I had the bikeman train going for the fist lap passing several riders. I gradually kept moving up though out the race. it was hard to distinguish between lapped riders and others in my category. I thought I finished 5th but latter found out I came in 3rd. It was a nice surprise and a confidence builder. I could use the confidence because next weekend I’m going to sea otter and I am sure to be schooled.

Tried to mountain bike today but too much snow still and snowmobiles haven’t packed it down enough to ride.
my looking to the future when snow will be gone face.
Where are the crazy, drunk Maine snowmobilers when you need them?

29er, 9650er, 36er, 76er

If you haven’t already heard the next big advancement in cycling is the 36” wheel. I wouldn’t be caught dead rolling to the starting line of the 2008 season with anything else.

Not really, I think 36” a little overkill. I would like to ride a 29 “ in front 650cc on back. Yea, that would be perfect. It could be called a 9650er

I found this video group of cyclists that tried to push the envelope beyond the 36”er with the 76”er.

Michael Patrick

While blog browsing I came across Michael Patrick blog yesterday. I know Michael as a mtn bike racer. all my conversations with Michael had been short while winded during races. I was unfamiliar with the details of the struggle with brain cancer. He and his blog are inspiring take a look and see what he has been through. It puts the whole aspect of dealing with pain and struggling in perspective.

Also I forgot to mention he is super fast. He races pro and came in 24th @ last years national championships @ mount snow (destroyed me) also to top it all off he’s a really nice person too…. RESPECT!!
